What does a lawn treatment programme actually involve?

A proper treatment programme covers seasonal feeding, selective weed control, moss treatment, scarification to clear out thatch and moss, and aeration to relieve compaction, all timed to what the lawn actually needs through the year rather than a single one-off visit.

How is Spade & Blade different from the national lawn treatment franchises?

How often does a lawn need treating?

Most lawns do well with a seasonal rhythm: a spring feed and moss treatment, scarification and aeration in autumn, and weed control as and when it is needed through the growing season. A newly treated lawn on heavy clay or with a long-standing moss problem sometimes needs a closer first year to get it properly turned around before settling into that ordinary rhythm. We set out a realistic programme once we have actually looked at your lawn, rather than selling a fixed number of visits regardless.

When is the best time for scarification and aeration?

Early autumn is the prime window, while the soil is still warm and the rain has usually returned, so the lawn recovers and thickens up before winter. Spring is a reasonable second option if autumn gets missed.

Will a treatment programme get rid of moss for good?

It will bring moss right back and keep it there if the underlying cause, usually compaction, shade or poor drainage, gets dealt with alongside the treatment itself. We will tell you honestly if something else needs fixing too, rather than just treating the symptom on repeat every year.
